Among the Italian rose gardens that I’ve visited, the one that probably fascinated me the most is the Ancient Rose Garden Museum, perched on the hills of Modena, halfway between Maranello and Serramazzoni. Set in a wonderful naturalistic context, it houses over 3.600 roses belonging to 750 ancient varieties, planted in botanical order – there is so much to learn as well as to admire! The roses are reproduced and usually put on sale. May-June is obviously the best time of the year to visit this wondrous garden, while in other months visitors may attend pruning courses and proper cultivation and maintenance of their roses.
