A WALK ALONG THE TERRACED VINEYARDS AROUND SONDRIO

Here is a nice and easy one-hour walk around Sondrio – my dear friend Monica Galli suggested it and sent us some of her beautiful pictures as well. The walk starts near the city stadium, a 10-minute walk from the city centre, and leads to the Sanctuary of Sassella, winding among terraced vineyards. Visitors may then continue on another 20-minute trek to Triasso, among thickets of hazelnut, apple, fig and wild cherry trees, old wash houses and ancient stone buildings. Just before reaching the town, take a paved road on the right that leads to other terraced vineyards and eventually reaches the convent of San Lorenzo (once the Castle of San Giorgio), where a spectacular view of the valley facing the Adamello Mountain can be enjoyed.

On the way back, you will come across many flowers and shrubs, including botanical rose varieties, weigelas, and even prickly pears!
